hi
Im looking for a cheap way to test VI before desiding on VI or VMWare but Im unsure how to read you supported hardware page. Do I only need to match the processor and then I will be able to run VI or can I only use servers on the certified list? I was thinking on buying two Dell Dimension E521 with AMD® Athlontm 64 X2 Dual Core-processor 4200+ 2048 MB Dual Channel DDR2-RAM 320 GB Seriel ATA-harddisk and then connect to our iSCSI SAN once version 3.5 is out (when is version 3.5 planed?) Jan,
Servers on the certified are ones that we (or our partners) have run Virtual Iron on. There are certainly servers that are not on this list that work. You are correct the most important component is the processor and ensuring that it has Intel VT or AMD V. The E521 with the Athlon 64 X2 does have AMD V. Be sure to get the X2. Yes, 3.5 will have iSCSI support via a software initiator in the virtualization layer. 3.5 will be released in the next couple of weeks. |
