Am I right that a virtual domain has to have VSTools installed in order to make migration functions like LiveMaintanance and LiveRecovery to work? And that this tool is a kernel module so customers owning a virtual server can never just upgrade their kernel?

You are correct that VSTools must be loaded for LiveMigration to work. VSTools provide ethernet and disk drivers, however you can apply kernel upgrades and security patches without issue from your OS distro.

Maybe you could write a manual on how to use DKMS for dynamicaly compiling and loading the kernel modules in RHEL like OS's?
