I am mostly interested in the networking aspects of VI.  I need a virtual switch, 802.1q trunking, and etherchannel if possible.

Is there updated docs on what it can do now, other than just iSCSI?

Thanks,
Jason

You can read about iSCSI and other network capabilities in the 3.5 Administrator's Guide. We do not yet support 802.1q trunking.

Is support for software iSCSI targets likely? Linux or Solaris?

Version 3.5 supports iSCSI. Our HCL provides an up-to-date list of supported iSCSI servers.

I thought you said in another thread that 3.5 would have support for 802.1q trunking for sure.  When is this slated to happen.  It is a system requirement.

I'm sorry, I do not remember ever promising 802.1q trunking in a specific timeframe.

We do support trunking in guests, as was stated in that forum posting.

Is there a timeframe for when they will get this working to be more comparable to ESX?

Yes the HCL states: * DataCore SANmelody * Dell AX150i * Network Appliance I'm wondering about software targets. Are they on the roadmap? Or maybe I should ask, will the work but not be officially supported?

DataCore SANmelody is a software target and you can get a 'lite' version for $199 upto 2TB of disk space.

Sure if you want to run windows, but for example no use if you want to use zfs or samba.

Additional hardware and software iSCSI targets will likely work, but have not gone through the full qual cycle. We are working to expand our certified targets.
