John C. Thibault Joins Virtual Iron™ Software, Inc. As President and Chief Executive Officer - Industry veteran to lead breakthrough datacenter virtualization software start-up

ACTON, Mass., January 24, 2005 – Virtual Iron Software, Inc. - www.virtualiron.com - (formerly Katana Technology, Inc.) has named John C. Thibault as president, chief executive officer and director of the datacenter virtualization company. Thibault succeeds company founder Scott Davis as president. Davis remains with the company as executive vice president of strategy and corporate development and CTO.

Founded in 2003 by computer industry innovators Davis and Alex Vasilevsky, Virtual Iron Software will deliver an enterprise-class virtual computing platform enabling customers to implement a Real-Time Infrastructure (RTI) -- creating more flexible, rapid resource deployment and significantly lowering total cost of ownership and ensuring enterprises are not locked into proprietary architectures and solutions. Based on open standards, this innovative software platform dynamically creates "virtual servers" from any number of physical servers -- from a fraction of a processor to large-scale multi-processors.

Thibault was president and chief executive officer of GeoTel Communications Corp., which he led from a promising startup to an industry leader with more than 150 blue-chip customers and $2 billion in market capitalization. GeoTel was acquired by Cisco in June 1999. In 1997, The Massachusetts Telecom Council named Thibault "CEO of the Year" for leading GeoTel to one of the most successful initial public offerings of 1996. "I decided to join the Virtual Iron team because I believe the technology has the opportunity to become market changing in the fast-growing market for datacenter virtualization solutions," said Thibault.

"I am excited about the opportunity to join Scott and Alex in establishing Virtual Iron as a market leader -- delivering an open standards- based Real-Time Infrastructure. I was sold when I experienced firsthand customers' reaction to this breakthrough technology." Thibault brings more than 27 years of high-tech industry experience -- last serving as chairman and chief executive officer of Convergent Networks, an emerging growth technology company focused on developing next generation switching solutions. Prior to joining Convergent Networks, Thibault was senior vice president, Cisco Systems -- leading Cisco's expansion into the New England area. In addition, Thibault was senior vice president of Motorola/Codex and was an executive at Wang Laboratories.
