The event marks the launch of the new Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor 5300 series, the world’s first quad-core processor for mainstream servers. At the event, Intel will feature a recent customer deployment of Virtual Iron on the new Intel platform. The deployment highlights the increased speed and processing power that the new quad-core technology is delivering to the migration of a large enterprise-class workload from a proprietary and expensive class of servers to an industry-standard server incorporating the new quad-core Intel processor.

Virtual Iron’s comprehensive virtualization and management solution is very complementary to multi-core processing and enables end–users to fully exploit the power of quad-core technology. For example, Virtual Iron provides up to 96 gigabytes of memory per virtual server as well as the ability to do symmetric multi-processing where users can take advantage of up to eight CPUs in a single virtual machine, delivering the industry’s leading performance in a virtualized environment. In addition, Virtual Iron’s powerful virtual infrastructure management capabilities enable users to automatically optimize matching of workloads and available capacity. Virtual Iron is also the first virtualization solution provider to fully leverage Intel’s new hardware–assisted virtualization technology (Intel VT). This enables Virtual Iron to support unmodified guest operating systems while delivering near native performance.

“With its support for large memory and workloads and sophisticated virtual infrastructure management capabilities, Virtual Iron allows joint customers to leverage the full value of the new Intel Quad-Core technology,” said Mike Grandinetti, Chief Marketing Officer at Virtual Iron. “With the advent of the Quad-Core Intel Xeon Processor Series, Virtual Iron and Intel are jointly delivering unprecedented levels of price performance for virtualization users.”

Virtual Iron is an Intel Capital portfolio company and has a technology collaboration agreement with Intel.
