ServerProven designation means the solutions have been successfully implemented in a real-world production environment. The deployment of Virtual Iron software on IBM systems enables users to reduce data center complexity, increase agility and resource utilization, and dramatically reduce capital and operating expenses.

The IBM ServerProven designation is intended to help customers easily identify complete solutions for their business-critical needs. IBM ServerProven solutions are evaluated for their quick installation, easy start up and their reliability running on IBM systems in a real-world production environment. Virtual Iron supports a broad range of IBM x86 servers, including IBM BladeCenter* and IBM System x*. The IBM ServerProven program is limited to IBM PartnerWorld* members.

Virtual Iron delivers advanced virtualization and management software solutions and is designed for production-class performance and scalability. In early April, Virtual Iron announced the latest release of its software. The new version combines the company’s enterprise-class virtualization and management capabilities with the open source Xen hypervisor. With it, Virtual Iron will be the first to deliver native virtualization and simultaneous support for both 32 and 64-bit unmodified Linux and Windows operating systems and applications on Xen. It takes full advantage of new hardware-assisted virtualization capabilities from Intel and AMD, and requires no installation or management of the virtualization services on physical servers. As a result, users can streamline data center management and reduce operational costs while preserving investments in their existing software stack.

According to industry analyst IDC, in 2005, about 3-5% of all x86-based server workloads were in virtual machines. This is estimated to grow to 20% by the end of 2006.
