Virtual Iron Announces Support for New Intel Hardware-Assisted Virtualization

Intel® Virtualization Technology will help increase flexibility and accelerate performance of Virtual Iron software in the enterprise data center and help reduce total cost of ownership for users

LOWELL, MA – March 1, 2006 –
Virtual Iron Software (www.virtualiron.com), a provider of data center virtualization and management solutions, today announced support for new hardware-assisted virtualization capabilities from Intel Corporation. As a result, Virtual Iron users will gain the increased reliability and capabilities of the new Intel platform. Virtual Iron has been working closely with Intel and is already incorporating the new capabilities, called Intel Virtualization Technology (VT), into its product development and roadmap efforts. A demonstration will be shown at Intel Developer Forum being held March 7-9 at Moscone West in San Francisco.

“With VT, Intel is providing built-in architectural support for virtualization,” said Alex Vasilevsky, Founder and Chief Technical Officer at Virtual Iron. “This significantly increases the market opportunity for Virtual Iron by making it easier for more enterprises to take advantage of Virtual Iron’s mainframe-class virtualization and management capabilities on industry-standard hardware.”

Virtual Iron offers enterprise-class data center virtualization and policy-based management solutions that deliver maximum flexibility to production-level applications on industry-standard hardware. The Virtual Iron solution increases resource utilization through pooling and sharing of data center resources, and improves IT agility via dynamic and flexible infrastructure, rapid provisioning, rapid reconfiguration and capacity-on-demand capabilities. With Intel VT, Virtual Iron is able to offer greater efficiency, reliability and flexibility for enterprise-class workloads on industry-standard hardware.

“Intel Virtualization Technology provides a foundation for Virtual Iron to efficiently create new and better software capabilities that build upon Intel's platform innovation,” said Diane Bryant, Vice President and General Manager of Intel’s Server Platforms Group. “By supporting Intel Virtualization Technology in its products, Virtual Iron is helping to increase flexibility and reduce total cost of ownership for its enterprise customers.”

In addition to the close product collaboration efforts between the two companies, Intel Capital is also an investor in Virtual Iron.
