Description of responsibilities:

DIGITAL DEMAND GENERATION
The successful candidate will be responsible for generating a high volume of qualified leads for disposition by Virtual Iron’s direct and indirect sales channels. These leads will be generated by a wide array of marketing programs, including outbound email campaigns, webinars, seminars, customer contests, strategic partner events, VAR channel partner events, trade shows and industry conferences and exhibits, inbound leads from PR/AR/blogs and Virtual Iron’s community and forums.

The candidate will be especially experienced in generating demand from “new marketing” digital programs via the web, email, blogs, social networking, communities and forums. The candidate will understand and be able to execute graphics basic design and messaging as well as HTML programming.

BUDGET MANAGEMENT
The candidate will be responsible for a significant component of the company’s discretionary annual marketing budget. In addition, the candidate will be very resourceful from a cash efficiency point-of-view, and deliver creative and highly effective demand generation campaigns that have high impact for proportionally low cost.

CLOSED LOOP LEAD MANAGEMENT
The successful candidate will be responsible for the effective closed loop management of leads as they move through the funnel. This will require an analytical orientation to manage lead scoring, disposition and tracking through a global distribution channel of VARs and a small named account sales force. The candidate will also manage the company’s marketing database, salesforce.com sales and marketing automation system and manage integrated lead flow between our web site and our e-commerce site and our marketing database and sf.com. The candidate will also manage a coordinator who is responsible for keeping the “house data base” clean and organized.

REQUIREMENTS
The candidate:

  • has a BS/BA degree in marketing or liberal arts
  • is highly detail oriented
  • is able to manage many programs and campaigns simultaneously and meets deadlines consistently
  • understands that demand generation is a continuous activity
  • has previous, successful demand generation experience in at least one venture-backed start-up
  • has a true passion for creating highly creative demand generation programs
  • has advanced digital marketing skills
  • understands viral marketing concepts
  • has HTML programming and online design skills
  • has basic graphic design skills such as Quark, Adobe Illustrator, etc.
  • has database marketing and analytics
  • has Google adword experience
  • has Search Engine Optimization experience
  • has list management skills
  • understands email marketing best practices
  • has Knowledge of existing US and international ‘spamming’ legislation
  • has salesforce.com management skills
  • has budget management experience
  • spends money as if it was their own
  • understand how to get best price from outside vendor without damaging good will and working relationship
  • has advertising copywriting experience
  • has ability and desire to work as part of a highly dynamic, cross-functional team
  • has ability to work closely with inside sales and VAR marketing personnel to understand impact of programs and to refine as required in real-time
  • ideally, has consumer packaged goods marketing experience
  • ideally, has experience in an open source project
