Users require the following to install and run Virtual Iron.

Virtual Iron enables administrators to configure and manage multiple operating systems, of different types and versions,
on one or more managed servers.

Version 3 supports virtual servers running the following:

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 U2 and U4 32- and 64-Bit
  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 SP3 32- and 64-Bit
  • Windows XP Professional 32-Bit
  • Windows Server 2003 32-Bit

Enterprise Edition Management Server, Minimum Requirements
 

One server hosts the Virtual Iron Virtualization Manager, the management application that supports the actions you will perform when installing, configuring and using Virtual Iron. Minimum requirements include:

  • 1 CPU
  • 2 GB RAM
  • 30 GB hard drive
  • 2 Ethernet ports
  • OSs supported:
    • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 U2 and U4 32- and 64-Bit
    • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 SP3 32- and 64-Bit
    • Windows XP Professional 32-Bit
    • Windows Server 2003 32-Bit

Enterprise Edition Managed Servers, Minimum Requirements

  • 2 GB RAM
  • CD-ROM drive
  • 2 Ethernet ports
  • Fibre channel card (optional)
  • Your virtualized nodes must have Intel® Virtualization Technology (Intel VT) or AMD Virtualization (AMD-V™) hardware assist. For a list of supported hardware, please click here. If you do not have a server with hardware-assisted virtualization, please contact your reseller or hardware provider.

Single Server Edition, Minimum Requirements

  • 2 GB RAM
  • CD-ROM drive
  • 36 GB hard drive
  • 1 Ethernet port
  • Fibre channel card (optional)
  • Your virtualized nodes must have Intel® Virtualization Technology (Intel VT) or AMD Virtualization (AMD-V™) hardware assist. For a list of supported hardware, please click here.
